Anyway, Atlantis itself is this huge sprawling complex of hotels, ponds/aquaria, beaches, water slides, and other attractions. Architecturally it's very beautiful, and the fishtanks are quite neat. But it was also very crowded, and everything was expensive - about 3-4x what you would pay for things in the States.
The wedding itself was picture-perfect, and the pictures tell that story. Of course they don't tell that it was hot and muggy, but at least the sun wasn't beating down on us (the wedding was at 4pm, reception after, both outdoors).
On with the photos. I've divided these into separate sets, with smaller thumbnail pictures on each set index. From there you can click to see a larger version of the image(s) you're interested in.
ArchitecturePegasi sculpture in front of the hotel; massive bronze(?) doors; the front marina/harbor; postcard picture of the hotel.
Indoor PicturesVarious places inside the hotel.
Shots from the BalconyPictures of both ocean and harbor sides, as seen from the balconies.
Outdoor ShotsPonds, waterfalls, bridges and underwater tunnels around the hotel grounds.
Night ShotsI've learned how to control the exposure time and lens aperture on my camera, so I got these night pix. I really need a tripod to do better on these, though...
"The Dig"A made-up journey through the "ruins" of Atlantis. Reminded me somewhat of a Myst world... except for the screaming kids running around the halls.
AquariaLots and lots of fish.
The WeddingThe real reason we're here.
DowntownOr rather, the tourist markets, where 50 or more merchants were selling the same chintzy tourist junk at every stand. I did get a closer look at some of the humongous cruise ships parked there, though.
Seen While DrivingTaken out the window of the bus as we were whizzing by. (Courtesy the 1/1000 shutter speed on my camera - apparently I can take action shots after all).
AirplanesWell now it wouldn't be a proper trip if I didn't get some pictures of airplanes. The guppy and B-17 are parked at Ellington Field.
Kira the TouristMom took this picture of me, with her regular camera, and I scanned it in. It's one of the few pix of me that turned out ok (didn't make me look fat or whatever). |
